The PMMDA was originally formed in 1966 as the PMDA (Plastics Machinery
Distributors Association). The eight founder companies set out
to agree a range of standards for both UK manufacturers and distributors of
foreign machinery. Three of these companies, Soag Limited, Industrial Plastics
and Hamilton Machinery Sales, are still with us. From the need for quality of
products, technical competence and service back-up came our association.
Whilst the faces may have changed, the association's main aims have never
altered. A commitment to the education of potential industry employees and
teachers has been backed by our financial support of the Polymer Study Tours and
Sponsorship Package Awards to support students.
Customers benefit from a database listing our members and the products they
supply. We also advise them on specifications and applications with our Guide To
series of publication.
Members have benefited from the links to the British Plastics Federation, of
which we are an affiliated member and to whom we supply the very latest industry
statistics for EUROMAP. Trade associations around the world exchange relevant
information so that members benefit from news on the latest developments in
markets and technology.
Representation at a governmental level via the BPF a is of great
benefit to our members and includes a representation with the HSE and BSI.
PMMDA membership figures remain fairly stable, even in these difficult
economic times. With new technology and new services PMMDA offers a great deal to
both members and their customers.
